Over 30 of Australia’s cricketing royalty came together on the harbour to talk all things cricket and to raise over $100,000 as a part of Northcott Disability Services 14th Annual Cricket Legends Lunch, hosted by Mike Whitney.
300 guests enjoyed harbour views, a delicious three-course meal and the chance to mingle with cricketing greats.
The lunch featured a panel discussion of the great minds of Michael Bevan, Alan Davidson AM MBE, Greg Matthews and Jim Maxwell. The legends reminisced about past memories and spoke about the accolades and controversies of the 2009-2010 Summer Season, including day/night test matches, the death of one day internationals as well as the upcoming Ashes tour; when the poms hit Aussie shores.
Mike Whitney said the cricket commentary was truly first-class but even more important, was listening to the stories of some of the young adults living with a disability who spoke at the event.
“Hearing the stories of the young adults who are supported by Northcott really shows the life-changing work of this not-for-profit organisation,” Mr. Whitney said.
“It is absolutely wonderful to be a part of helping to raise over $100,000 for Northcott’s Recreation and Leisure programs,” he said.
“The program operates across NSW to provide children and adults with a disability the opportunity to spend time with their peers in social and sporting activities,” he said.
Mitch Taylor, Recreation Manager of Northcott Disability Services was very grateful to the community for their support.
“The money raised today really helps this service continue to exist,” Mr. Taylor said.
“Northcott’s adult recreation program receives no government funding and our children’s recreation service only receives minimal funding,” he said.
The event was sponsored by Cricket NSW, The Dockside Group and Robert Stein Winery and Vineyard.
