Day at Dreamworld

Young adults from the New England region travelled to Dreamworld on the Gold Coast thanks to a camp organised by Northcott Disability Services. The camp provided siblings of those with a disability the opportunity to form networks and support systems with other young people sharing similar life issues.

Northcott acknowledged by the community

Northcott Disability Services was announced winner of the “Excellence in Contributing to the Community by a Not for Profit Organisation” category at the 2007 Suncorp Parramatta Regional Awards for Business Excellence on September 4, 2007. The awards, held at The Roxy Hotel Parramatta, honoured small, medium and large businesses from across Sydney's Greater West and beyond.

Spinasaurus visits Richmond North Public School

North Public School played host to a big and friendly blue dinosaur named Spinasaurus on Thursday 6 September, 2007 in recognition of Spina Bifida Awareness Week 2007. Spinasaurus, who has a gap in his backbone to represent spina bifida, is the official mascot of The Northcott Spina Bifida Group. The dinosaur visited the school during Spina Bifida Awareness Week, which ends on September 7.

Giving it a go

New era of service provision for Nepean

Nepean now have access to programs and resources locally with the launch of a new office in Penrith on June 13, 2007. The Hon. Kristina Keneally MP, Minister for Ageing and Minister for Disability Services officially opened the premises on Coombes Avenue that will house four Northcott Disability Services programs including; Northcott’s Individual Community Participation Program, Western Sydney Therapy Team, Jobmatch and Intensive Family Support.

Schools score for Northcott

Students with physical disabilities from schools across Sydney gave it a go at Northcott's Senior Interschool Football Carnival, held at the State Sports Centre, Homebush on Tuesday May 29. Brett Ogden of Oakville, a 2007 NSW representative for Wheelchair Rugby and Adin March of Cherrybrook, Sports Development Officer for Wheelchair Sports NSW welcomed students on the day.

Andrew Williams of Baulkham Hills can thank Northcott Disability Services for his chosen career. The 20-year-old, who has spina bifida, is currently supported by Northcott and a recent recipient of Northcott’s Thomas Hepburn Lennox scholarship. After undertaking work experience at Northcott’s Public Relations Department in 2001, Andrew instantly knew he had found his chosen profession.

Kids make a splash with Northcott

It was all about having a go as over 60 children with physical disabilities, their teachers and carers took part in Northcott's Junior Interschool Swimming Carnival,  held on Friday March 16 at Ryde Aquatic Centre. Matt Levy of Northbridge, a former world recorder holder in the 200m freestyle in May 2003 welcomed students and encouraged them to achieve. Matt has cerebral palsy and is sight impaired. He is a member of the Australian with a Disability swimming program at the NSW Institute of Sport and represented Australia at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games.

Charity, cycling and a connection to Vietnam

Travelling to Vietnam as part of Northcott's 2007 Charity Cycling Challenge will be an adventure one young couple will never forget. Northcott invited adventurous Australians to take part in its Vietnam Cycling Challenge in an effort to raise funds for the organisation. Marc and Sue Napoli answered the call. The couple and 12 other cyclists will now embark on a 500km bike ride across Vietnam in March 2007 to raise much-needed funds for children and adults with disabilities.

Recurrent funding to help families in crisis
